Quetta: Reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and student development, the IEEE BUITEMS Student Branch, in collaboration with the IEEE Quetta Subsection and IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) BUITEMS, organized an inspiring seminar titled "Final Year Project – Make it Count!" on 6 May 2026 at the Orange Hall, BUITEMS.
The seminar was specifically designed for sixth-semester students of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) to help them identify innovative, industry-relevant, and impactful Final Year Project (FYP) ideas. The event aimed to equip students with the knowledge and practical guidance required to plan, execute, and successfully complete projects that address real-world challenges while fostering creativity and innovation.
The session commenced with a welcome address, followed by the introduction of the guest speaker, Dr. Muhammad Shoaib Ali, an accomplished academic and researcher specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision.
During his keynote address, Dr. Muhammad Shoaib Ali emphasized the significance of the Final Year Project as a milestone in every engineering student's academic journey. He highlighted how a well-planned FYP enhances technical expertise, research capabilities, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. He encouraged students to select project topics aligned with emerging technologies, industry requirements, and societal needs while stressing the importance of innovation, teamwork, effective project management, and proper technical documentation.
The interactive session enabled students to engage directly with the speaker by discussing their project ideas, implementation challenges, and strategies for developing innovative engineering solutions. The seminar provided valuable insights that will help students make informed decisions and pursue projects with meaningful academic and practical impact.
More than 150 sixth-semester students from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology participated in the seminar, reflecting the enthusiasm of BUITEMS students to engage in research-driven learning and innovation.
The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Surat Khan, Dean, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT); Dr. Attique Ur Rehman, Chairperson, Department of Electrical Engineering; Dr. Muhammad Aadil Siddiqui, Chairperson, Department of Computer Engineering; Dr. Raza Ali, Chair, IEEE Quetta Subsection; and other distinguished faculty members.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Surat Khan appreciated the efforts of the IEEE BUITEMS Student Branch, IEEE Quetta Subsection, and IEEE WIE BUITEMS for organizing a highly beneficial seminar for students. He commended Dr. Muhammad Shoaib Ali for sharing his expertise and mentoring future engineers, and presented him with a commemorative shield in recognition of his valuable contribution.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks and a group photograph of the participants, guest speaker, and faculty members.
