Quetta: The Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) has further strengthened its role in international scientific collaboration as the National Center for Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (NCNN), Pakistan, with which BUITEMS is affiliated through its Nanosensorics Laboratory led by Dr. Anayat Ullah, signed a landmark Cooperation Agreement with the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST), Beijing, China, on 30 July 2026.
The agreement marks a significant step towards enhancing Pakistan–China collaboration in nanoscience and nanotechnology, with a shared vision of advancing collaborative research, promoting scientific innovation, and strengthening capacity building between the two countries.
The Cooperation Agreement was signed by Dr. Irshad Hussain, Project Director of NCNN (LUMS), and Prof. Zhiyong Tang, Director of NCNST, Beijing, establishing a framework for joint research initiatives, knowledge exchange, and technological cooperation in emerging areas of nanoscience.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by several distinguished academic and scientific leaders, including Prof. Zia-ul-Haq, Executive Director, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan; Prof. Kausar Abdullah Malik, President, Pakistan Academy of Sciences; Prof. N.M. Butt, Fellow, Pakistan Academy of Sciences; Dr. Najeeb Ullah, Member (Science & Technology), Planning Commission of Pakistan; and Dr. Khan Wazir Muhammad, Science and Technology Counsellor, Embassy of Pakistan, Beijing.
Principal Investigators from NCNN partner institutions across Pakistan also attended the ceremony, representing leading universities and research organizations, including BUITEMS, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), COMSATS University Islamabad, Air University, University of Balochistan, Information Technology University (ITU), and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro.
As an affiliated partner of NCNN through its Nanosensorics Laboratory, BUITEMS continues to contribute to national research initiatives in nanotechnology and advanced materials. Under the leadership of Dr. Anayat Ullah, the University's Nanosensorics Laboratory has been actively engaged in cutting-edge research, innovation, and capacity building in nanoscience and sensor technologies.
The newly signed cooperation agreement is expected to create new opportunities for collaborative research projects, faculty and researcher exchanges, joint scientific publications, advanced laboratory training, and technology transfer between Pakistan and China. The partnership will also strengthen the research capabilities of participating institutions and promote the development of innovative solutions to global scientific and technological challenges.
The agreement reflects BUITEMS' continued commitment to expanding international research partnerships, promoting interdisciplinary scientific excellence, and contributing to Pakistan's growing research and innovation ecosystem.
