BUITEMS Celebrates Research Excellence at 1st BRAS Program Award Letter Ceremony

The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), BUITEMS, proudly hosted the 1st BUITEMS Research Acceleration & Support (BRAS) Program Award Letter Ceremony on July 14, 2025, marking a major milestone in the university’s pursuit of research excellence and institutional innovation.

The BRAS Program, a visionary initiative proposed by Dr. Mehmood Baryalai, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science (FICT), was officially endorsed by the Vice Chancellor of BUITEMS and launched by ORIC in March 2025. The program is designed to accelerate research by providing institutional support for promising, high-impact research projects across faculties.

A total of 23 project proposals were submitted by faculty members from multiple departments. Following a rigorous two-stage review process—including detailed presentations on May 30, 2025—six projects were selected for funding under the BRAS Program.

The award letter ceremony took place in the Video Conference Room, attended by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez as Chief Guest, alongside the Pro Vice Chancellor, Deans, Directors, and distinguished faculty and staff.

Award recipients under the BRAS Program included:
• Dr. Kaleem U. Kakar, Associate Professor, Microbiology (FLI)
• Dr. Abdul Wajid, Assistant Professor, Biotechnology (FLI)
• Dr. Samia Perveen, Assistant Professor, Microbiology (FLI)
• Dr. Asma Abro, Assistant Professor, Biotechnology (FLI)
• Dr. Mushtaq Yasinzai, Assistant Professor, Biotechnology (FLI)
• Dr. Mohammad Qasim Siddiqui, Professor, Textile Engineering (FEA)

In recognition of his dedication and pioneering role, Dr. Mehmood Baryalai was honored with a commemorative shield. The Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Arbab Mirwais Kasi, also received a shield in support of research initiatives.

As a token of gratitude, Prof. Dr. Surat Khan, Dean FICT, and Prof. Dr. Kamran Sami, Director ORIC, presented a special shield to the Vice Chancellor in acknowledgment of his visionary leadership and support for BRAS.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez congratulated the awardees and underscored BUITEMS’ commitment to fostering a vibrant research culture. He emphasized the importance of discipline, originality, and collaborative impact in research, calling upon the awardees to lead by example and mentor emerging scholars.

This inaugural BRAS Award Ceremony reinforced BUITEMS’ strategic focus on academic excellence and transformative research, further establishing the institution as a center of innovation and knowledge creation in Pakistan.
